Formerly known as Kijang Airport, Raja Haji Fisabillilah Airport is located at Tanjungpinang, the capital of Kepulauan Riau Province. This airport namesake comes from Bugis crown prince who lead the troops of Melaka Sultanate at the Battle of Riau in 1974. This ariport is projected to serve an high growth region with a wealth of  cultural and historical background. Located in the so-called Singapore - Johor - Riau Triangle, Tanjungpinang shares a lot of cultural and historical root with its neighbors. The airport itself currently equipped with single aerobridge and single runway, serving only for domestic flight. But the opportunity to serve international route is still open, since its predecessor, Kijang Airport has also served international route in the past. The terminal building is also equipped with 8 check-in counter and two conveyor belt for baggage claim.

Cultural richness of Tanjungpinang are being displayed in the display artwork and graphic design at the terminal's check-in area. Information about various sights and attraction in Tanjungpinang with its cultural and historical backgrounds are being displayed at the baggage claim area. The maritime story of its namesake are being displayed in the expression of the terminal's building roof with its sinuous wave in the drop of area as its foreground as the sea, the representation of boat above it and the curving roof of the main terminal building as the sky. Like its sister airport, the Depati Amir airport in Pangkal Pinang, Raja Haji Fisabilillah also created with expendabiity and modularity in mind to balance the growth of the region. This, in turn made the serice of the airport to be dependable by its simplicity. Those factors made the Raja Haji Fisabillilah airport to be recognised by Majalah Bandara by the awarding of best airport in 2014 to 2016 consecutively.
